There are some selected souls who strive not only for their self-excellence but ascertain that they make a substantial contribution for social and noble causes. Shri Chandra falls into this category of social engineers.

A postgraduate in Mathematics from the University of Allahabad, Mr Ashok Chandra joined the Indian Administrative Services in 1959. He served in various capacities in the state of Uttar Pradesh namely, as Secretary in The Department of Industries and as Chairman of the State Jal Nigam.

He has also served as Additional Secretary in the Department of Company Affairs.

Mr Ashok Chandra served the Government of India as Secretary in the Ministry of Food Processing Industry, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Information and Broadcasting and the Department of Heavy Industry. He was Advisor to the Governor of Uttar Pradesh, India and also Advisor to the Government of Afghanistan.

At present, he is Trustee of Sir Ganga Ram Trust Society which runs the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi.
